Abstract

|
This study was carried out to identified the disinfection, nursing, working situation of the nurses who have worked in the O.R. and the real situation before, during and after operations.
The purpose of this study was to provide the basic data to help the O.R. nurses on the basis of the results of this survey.
The data was collected from December 15 to 30 in 1992 from the subjects of 171 nurses O.R. nurses who have been working in 6 hospitals of the secondary and tertiary health delivary system in Seoul.
The data analyzed by statistical package for the social science (SPSS), mean, crosstabulation, x²verification, ANOVA, percentage, t-test, stepwise procedure of regression analysis.

The most age grope(42.7%) is between 22 and 26 years old.
Christians (40.4%) are the most in their religions.
More than half of nurses are unmarried (secondary 56.7%, tertiary 88.3%).
The O.R. experiences are varied (1-2years 28.1%, 7-8years 23.4%).
2. disinfection in the O.R.
It takes for 3 minutes for their hand washing (66.1%).
The reason of hand washing to remove bacteria under nails was recognized by 65.5%.
The using of the alcohol after hand washing was practiced by 32.8%(Betadine 72.6%).
Gown is changed everday(61.4%), and mask immediately before operation case (45.4%).
Each cell of the O.R. department has an air cleaner(50.3%).
3. Nursing roles working situation
There are rooms seperately for each department (or part) in O.R., and 11-20 rooms (55.5%) are the most. General surgery (32.2%) es the most and orthopedic surgery (16.4%) is the second in working part.
Nurses are rotated every month(73.7%). The trainning period that nurse can scrub is mostly 1 month(49.1%)
When new equipment is come in a dealer(62.2%) in medical appliances teaches how to use it. The operating room 96 belong to nursing department (84.2%) in hospital administration.
4. Real situation in the operation room. The O.R. nurses is generally good at managing the equipment, as they well communication with docdor hand to the rightpart equipment.
The O.R. nurse, however, cannot provide the physical and emotional care to the patients under going operation.
